2024 Draft Profile: Notre Dame's LT Joe Alt
The offensive linemen factory continues to turn out quality as the Irish do it again.
Between now and April, I plan on looking at as many prospects as I can for the 2024 Draft and will spend 200 snaps with each of them and then share my thoughts with you. I don’t claim to be some high draft authority and will have plenty of missed evaluations, but I watch each of these guys as best I can. I still think it is better to do the work than to shrug and say “nobody knows.” Each of these profiles will be short, but I will attempt to provide a thumbnail sketch as well as some information and videos (borrowed from twitter) to expedite our project.
I think it is time for us to take a look at the guys who are considered by the industrial draft complex as “best in class” for the offensive line and we will start with Notre Dame’s Joe Alt.
#76 - LT Joe Alt - Junior - Age 20 - 6’8 - 322 - Notre Dame
If this is your first draft season, I think it is very important for us to make one thing perfectly clear about the 2024 NFL Draft. This offensive line crop is ridiculously deep at the top-end. This is the 7th different lineman we have examined and we have several more to go and yet it seems like every one of these guys is a tremendous prospect. This is not normal at all.
There are some years where a given positional group is completely bare or maybe just one or two players in the top few rounds and other years where there are a bunch of them. Take tight end – the 2023 draft class may go down as one of the deepest we have ever seen, but the 2024 class looks like there might only be one or two tight ends to seriously consider for the top 60 players. There may be no rhyme or reason for this as randomness affects things, but let me tell you - we have a deep offensive line group. That should fit well with the Dallas Cowboys situation as we feel like offensive line is quite a ways up their list of coveted pieces.
