'24 Cowboys: A Waste Of Everyone's Time
NFL Films will not choose my subtitle for their summary, but it was a season destined for failure from the very beginning. Let's hope someone learned something.
Do you know what is great about the 2025 Dallas Cowboys season?
It isn’t 2024 anymore.
If you need any sort of encouraging sign about this coming year – a year where the Cowboys expectation level is somewhere between low and quite low - 7.5 over/under win total is as low as it has been around here in ages – it would be that whatever possessed the Cowboys leadership to do what it did has been left behind in a massive pile of rubble.
Early next week, when I arrive in California, I will release my own annual state-of-the-team address known as my “Off to Oxnard” piece that will turn the page to the new year and consider what lies ahead. It serves as both a reminder of where we are going and we we have been in a more macro-sense.
But, last year deserved more. It requires this preamble piece to spend a micro view on what we just endured.
I swear, I have never seen anything like it. It was self-sabotage and indifference from the highest offices in this organization. It was frankly a waste of everyone’s time. I think that is the kindest summary I can offer this past year. I simply cannot believe it even happened and the revisionist history will put it all on the fired and dismissed coaches, but we know better. They were abandoned by their front office long before the journey even began.
You know how NFL Films can always put a 30-minute summary that gives you the most optimistic view of a NFL season for every team? The title always has a catchy little slogan. Well, I would like to help them with this one. We shall call it The 2024 Dallas Cowboys: A Waste of Time.
