'24 Draft Profile - Missouri Edge Darius Robinson
Sometimes a positional change can absolutely change everything for a player's future.
We have one more edge rusher to go through before we switch to some hit-and-run linebackers here as we cruise to the halfway point. This one is a player I have been looking at since the Senior Bowl, because Darius Robinson caught my eye in Mobile.
No. 6 - Darius Robinson - Age 22 - Graduate - 6’5 - 285 - 4.95 - Missouri
Robinson is an interesting player in many regards, starting with the fact that he is an edge rusher who is much bigger than his contemporaries as a bit of an old school defensive end – back when all of those guys were much closer to 300 pounds than they were 250. The sport has changed, for sure, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some who can carry that weight and power and really pull it off on Sundays.
Robinson is an athletic dude and here is how we know. When he got to Missouri, they put him on the field as a nose tackle. Then, in 2021 and 2022, he predominantly played as a DT in the B-gaps for the Tigers. But, in 2023, they pushed him out to the tackles and that is when we found out he could get to the QB on a regular basis.
So, a player who had modest stats for his first four seasons played a graduate season in 2023 as a 5th year Tiger and busted out with huge numbers and great grades at almost a fully new position. Edge. We don’t see this evolution very often. Nose tackle to edge rusher.
