'24 NFL Draft Profile - Oregon's RB Bucky Irving
Irving is a great draft question personified - Are we willing to just trust the tape?
It is time to consider the case of yet another RB as we have a few to go before I run out of time. Today, let’s examine Oregon’s Bucky Irving.
No. 0 - Bucky Irving - Age 21 - Junior - 5’9 - 192 - 4.55 - Oregon
Irving is a very small RB and not like Blake Corum-small. He is slight. He is skinny and lacks the bulk or body armor of Corum, so let’s start with that distinction.
He transferred from Minnesota at about the time that Trey Benson transferred from Oregon to Florida State. So, Oregon was able to manage pretty well. Bucky was a top RB this year in college football and has been productive each year he has played.
So, what is the issue? Well, he did not run very well and more troubling, his explosion scores on the his jumps and leaps were very underwhelming for a position where that usually tells us plenty.
So, he is small and not very explosive. He is fast, but not terribly fast for his size, compared to the top backs in this draft, resulting in some test scores and such that will not compare.
But, we are told to trust the tape, right?
Well, the tape is very impressive as are his stats.
