3 Thoughts - Oilers Send Message in Gm 1
Stars continue to do what they have a habit of doing, getting behind early in a series.
The tradition continues.
The Dallas Stars have once again lost a Game 1 for the SEVENTH straight series. You could argue that the least damaging game to lose in a series is the first game as you have an entire series to recover, but you could also argue that the Stars insist on never doing anything the easy way.
The Edmonton Oilers probably enjoyed hearing about how little chance they had in this series for the last few days before they rolled into Dallas and deserved the win and then took it, thirty-two seconds into the 2nd overtime period as Connor McDavid redirected an Evan Bouchard puck into the net to win the opener, 3-2 in Dallas. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday Night.
These are My Three Thoughts:
–I don’t want to say I felt that loss coming, because I didn’t say it out loud. But, I have had an uneasy feeling since the Colorado hand-shake line that many think the Stars are now in open waters and can just increase speed with no resistance. Any sort of careful navigation that Vegas and Colorado forced is in the past and now comes the lesser challenges that may be stomped, it seemed. But, this is the Edmonton Oilers who happen to be a team that has proven they can play with and beat anyone in the sport and with McDavid, Draisaitl, and several others who can win games. Everyone – especially the 23 guys that matter in the Dallas dressing room – better understand that this party can come to a very quick demise unless you are playing your best for most of these next two weeks. Huge. Quickly.
