April 15th Bag of Balls: Almost There!
A look at the Cowboys plans, how to evaluate a QB, and some simulations.
It is April 15th and that, of course, means plenty for many reasons.
However, for me, it means we are inside 10 days to the draft. In fact, next Thursday will begin the longest of weekends, so let’s continue to move the pieces into the right spots.
As we enter the draft, we must first evaluate where we fully find ourselves. And, to the credit of the all-new Cowboys, flying under the cloak of a city distracted by Nico Harrison, they have added a DOZEN new, real, actual NFL players from other outposts.
I would like to prove it.
OK, we probably won’t call it the “Dirty Dozen 2,” but I think it is fair to say that they have really been active. In fact, I see quite a few names on there that have been highly regarded around the league in the past.
Now, obviously, with the exception of perhaps Dante Fowler, exactly zero of them would be considered “NFL starters” and thus have a robust market of bidding around them, but I see many names on here that I have liked and will be willing to give a full chance to wow us with their abilities come training camp.
I think (because these tiny contracts do not have eager agents to share the financials everywhere) they have brought in 12 NFL veterans for a little under $30M. We don’t know why they are operating like they are a small-market baseball team, but given that they clearly are, it is worth noting that I would actually say this isn’t too bad a return for a tiny outlay of cash.
