Decoding Schotty Wk4 - Scoring Machine
The offense performed at an extraordinary level vs Green Bay and now aims to make it a normal routine.
Tuesdays – since about 2008 – have been my day to evaluate the offense in this space. We have called it “Decoding” over those years and then the name behind the decoding is the man with the play-sheet calling the plays and hopefully putting them in an order to attack that week’s opponent. This is where we try to figure out the tactical and strategic plot-lines of the game and get a feel for how well it worked out for that side of the ball. For those of you new here, two things: 1) ask questions of anything you don’t quite understand and 2) be aware that we do defense on Wednesdays.
Here we go. Our objectives for today:
How the Offense Kept Scoring and Scoring
Prescott continues his top level play.
Dealing with Micah Parsons.
George Pickens is an absolute Problem.
Feature Players: Javonte Williams and Nate Thomas.
Look at some All-22 film and see what we can see.
OVERALL OFFENSIVE EVALUATION
It was the first tie for the Cowboys since the NFL-AFL Merger in 1970. It was bizarre and difficult to fathom. We aren’t sure exactly how strongly to feel about the things we learn because the end product wasn’t there.
But, offensively, it has been a while since we have seen so much good stuff happening in a game. We could easily argue it was the best offensive performance we have seen in a very long time – and to do so against a top defense (at the time, at least) and without many of your main pieces – is a very big endorsement for the job being done by those two main spots in the organization we keep harping on. For if you have your head coach and quarterback both performing at the top of their ranges, this particular football team is going to be in a good spot moving forward.
Sunday, as well as the entire first month of 2025, I think we can safely say that Brian Schottenheimer and Dak Prescott’s offensive partnership is off to a strong start and now we wait to see how and if they can continue it, build off of it, and expand its design and implement more layers of sophistication along the way.
