Don't Smile Because It's Over, Cry Because It Happened.

The 2025 Mavericks season mercifully ends and now we all wait for what comes next.

“Everybody needs a little time away”, I heard you say, “from each-other.” - Chicago

It has ended, and to be honest at this point, nobody is too upset about that.

The Dallas Mavericks season has ended with a 120-106 loss at Memphis where the Grizzlies hit the gas and attacked the Mavericks odd lineup of ill-fitting parts and took a 25 point lead early in the 2nd Quarter. From there, a Memphis cold spell allowed Anthony Davis to carry the Mavericks back under 10 a few times before his body gave out to health, yet again. At which point, Memphis coasted to victory and a far greater chance against Oklahoma City than Dallas could ever dream.

It was best for all involved that it happened this way and now we wait for what’s next. Nobody has any idea what that will be, but I have many thoughts on what that should be, as you are probably well aware.

But, as it stands, seventy-seven days after the trade, here are my final Mavericks Three Thoughts of this campaign:

  • What an incredibly forgettable performance to cap off an incredibly forgettable stretch drive and final three months. The game offered very little hope or belief and it ended with that familiar thud.

Anthony Davis can be very proud of his best performance with the Mavericks and his 40-point, 9-rebound night in Memphis deserved much better in terms of results or even drama. None of this is on him and he appears to be a man of class and pride.

In both of these play-in games, you see the allure and the attraction of his skill-set and his talents. It still doesn’t really feel like he is a hometown guy, but none of this is his fault and it all must be weighing on him quite a bit. He clearly needs surgery and the way he plays and the condition of his body suggest that you should probably move him as soon as you can if you find a taker at a big price.
