Draft Pick Profile – 4th Round Pick Devin Moore
There is never a bad time to take a cornerback who has a profile with considerable upside.
This morning, let us continue our journey in our look at the Cowboys draft picks with their 5th selection of the weekend.
No. 28 - Devin Moore - Age 22 - SR - 6’3 - 198 - 4.5 - Florida
This time we will break down the fine work and profile of Devin Moore, the tall cornerback from Florida. They took him at No. 114 and once again, I will confess that I did not get a profile done on him before the draft. He just did not meet the health threshold that is usually suggested for players in the top 3 rounds of the draft.
Of course, he wasn’t taken in the Top 100, but there are 150 or so more picks to be found in the draft and sometimes you can find guys who have red dots (or red flags) on their card.
Do you want a guy who has really impressive tape but you don’t like the injury situations or off-field shenanigans? Day 3 is where that sort of thing can be found.
In fact, the very first pick of Round 4 is Jermod McCoy, who happens to be a player that probably should have gone in the top 15 picks overall. But, his health betrayed him at a very expensive time of life.
Pick 101 - Sturm 60 favorite Jermod McCoy was taken by Las Vegas.
Pick 109 - Jadon Canady to Kansas City
Pick 114 - Devin Moore to the Cowboys
Pick 116 - My pet cat and Sturm 60 guy Keionte Scott to Tampa Bay
Pick 124 - Longhorn and Sturm 60 guy Malik Muhammad to Chicago
Pick 129 - Aggie and Sturm 60 guy Will Lee to Carolina
So, as you might surmise by looking above, I was hot on Keionte Scott, Malik Muhammad, and Will Lee in real time to be grabbed here. But, to be fair, Scott might be redundant with Caleb Downs. Malik is pretty small and Lee is coming off a year that wasn’t his best work. The Cowboys took “none of the above” and took a flier on a guy who is most impressive, but just not much in terms of the “availability” score.
Let’s take a look.
And above you see that 30 games is decent enough, but stretched over four years.
Then, you go to the snaps per year and his grades from PFF and you see a guy who just has not played enough football.
Again, this is an injury-prone young man. Could be bad luck or it could be something we will see on Sundays.
From Dane Brugler’s Beast at The Athletic:
Extensive injury history — missed start of the draft process because of groin surgery (December 2025); missed six games as a junior (one because of AC joint sprain; final five with right shoulder injury, which offseason labrum surgery in December 2024); missed five games as a sophomore because of back issues and a concussion; missed time during senior year of high school with left shoulder injury; reaggravated lingering shoulder issue during freshman year at Florida and required season-ending surgery (November 2022)
Now, allow me to confess – I am not a doctor, nor am I an expert on what is bad luck, what is chronic, and what I should be considering. So, we won’t do much of that. We will just watch the tape.
Here are his measureables:
Great length and very useful speed. He hits all the thresholds on his RAS score.
We have three games from 2025 to look at and they are all great challenge games in Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee. So, let’s trust the tape and see what we got.
