Glen Gulutzan Is Back & Better Than Before
Coaches can evolve in time and Stars believe that recycling this coach isn't a negative.
The Dallas Stars fan base is much more cynical than it used to be.
That should be taken as a sign of progress, by the way. Or maybe, it is lack of progress from the team’s quest for its second Stanley Cup. The more you care, the more everything hurts.
You see, going to the “final four” is a wonderful experience that everyone enjoys – until you lose. Then, doing it again – and losing. Then again - and losing. Soon, the numbness of despair overtakes the reasonable pride in outlasting nearly 90% of the rest of the league.
I have had many Cowboys fans tell me that making a NFC Championship Game would get everyone on board immediately. Short term, sure. But, if they then lose that game, the misery and cynicism would multiply. There is only one thing that truly quenches the thirst and we all know that is the trophy. The big one.
Outlasting 90% of the league isn’t any more satisfying to Stars fans than winning 12 games every year was for Cowboys fans.
“Great,” they will say, with tremendous sarcasm. “None of it matters.”
Perhaps, they mean, “nothing else matters,” as Metallica plays on.
