Some Observations from Cowboys Camp
After attending a lot of practices and sorting out some names, here is the notebook.
After 11 days in Oxnard/Ventura, California, I return home with a full notebook and feel prepared to get to the slate of preseason games with a decent eye for what to look for. Let’s dive fully in and debate some position battles below from my time at the practice fields and set the table for the next month of getting this roster down to business in Cleveland in Week 1:
I think one of the most interesting discussions on the entire roster, of course, is the offensive line battle at both left tackle and center. Specifically, the Tyler Guyton future to try to bridge the gap between Tyron Smith’s final snaps for the Cowboys last winter to when Guyton can take over and play at a very high level.
I saw a player at camp that quickly demonstrated he had quality and will ultimately be a fine player, but I do know that seeing Myles Garrett across from you in Week 1 is clearly throwing someone in the deep end early. Are you wiser to give him a chance to play his way onto the field? It has been a while since the Cowboys allowed any 1st rounder on that offensive line to wait before being put out there.
