The Monday Stack–Is it "let's make a deal" time?
The Stars & Cowboys both need to fill some holes and we are about to see what that means.
The time has come – or so we are told. The clock is ticking and all indications are that the Dallas Cowboys are ready for actions. It has been a long time since they were involved in free agency, so let’s hope they still remember how to do all of this. Because free agency is a spot in the NFL year where teams can take wrong turns that dig holes even deeper than we imagined.
We will spend plenty of time on the Dallas Cowboys in our Monday Stack, but we should also point out that the next 10 days offer us a double-dose of “silly season” in our sports universe and here at SturmStack. In the next week, we anticipate that the local hockey team – yes, the one that is easily the closest franchise in this city to winning a title – has their season’s trade deadline. That hits on Friday Afternoon as the NHL’s contenders plot their last possibilities to acquire reinforcements and then by this time next week, the NFL Insiders will be announcing agreements between a player and his new team – even though we were told that NFL Free Agency won’t officially go down until March 11th. I will just remind people that March 9th is when the news will start hitting hard. And for once, the Cowboys are saying loud and clear, “we will be involved”, so we will spend most of our time on that today.
Important Dates
The 2026 NHL Trade Deadline is Friday, March 6, 2026, at 2 pm.
The 2026 NFL free agency signing period officially begins at 3 pm on Wednesday, March 11, but the two-day legal tampering period opens on Monday, March 9 at 11 am.
Both of these items are very important as both teams seem motivated to do something that can radically help their situation. The Dallas Stars are pretty limited in firepower (and needs), but there are one or two moves that could really put them in a better spot in this “go for it” window.
Meanwhile, those Cowboys will need plenty to take care of their situation and also plenty of history to explain how we got here.
There is no question what we will be focused on here today in this March 2nd edition of the Monday Stack.
