They are Not Firing Nico; So, Now What?

He has survived the worst part of the storm and they are telling his critics to move on.

I have had some missteps as a media blowhard. I am proud that many of you do not expect me to throw perfect games, because if you did, well, I might have a much smaller crowd at our little newsletter and on the radio.

I have a lot of opinions and a lot of takes. Some are pretty solid, but others have whiffed.

Perhaps none of them quite as badly as thinking Ryan Leaf will be a better pro than Peyton Manning, and let’s not forget how bad I missed on Tyler Smith. I bet you could come up with your favorite bad take of mine, but for now, let me say I am far from perfect. But, also, I will keep shooting!

Here is one from April in the afternoon before Luka rode into town and dropped 45 on them:

“As I have said a few times: Nico will be gone soon. For sure by summer of 2026, but odds are before the start of next season. It is a matter of time.”

That night, with the entire arena chanting “Fire Nico”, I moved things up. I was pretty sure after Luka did what he did and the crowd did what they did that Nico Harrison would pay with his job “by the end of April.” The end game was here. The GM of the Dallas Mavericks would be gone.

Here are 10 minutes from The Hardline – The show you should definitely be listening to every day – to show how we felt the next day. It was quite unpleasant:

By the end of April came and went and no, he was not fired. The end game did not arrive.

“Also, if Nico is to be fired by end of April, we now have 4 minutes to do it.”

I missed big time because it doesn’t appear they had any plans to fire him. Less than two weeks later, the lottery was won.

Those who wanted Nico Harrison run out of town had lost. The geniuses who run this NBA franchise could only surmise that winning the lottery was a Nico Harrison move so therefore, he is now back in the good graces.

Heck, it sounds like he sort of believes it:
