Three Thoughts - Avs Answer Big In Gm 4

There is a truth in sports that seems to be a real thing – an actual truth – most of the time. I say that because it certainly doesn’t always apply, but it happens often enough that I still believe it.

It goes like this and makes sense in the playoffs between otherwise evenly-matched sides: If a team that must win ever plays a team that would like to win, you should probably go with the team that must win.

Colorado had to win this Game 4 and the Stars appeared unable to match the desperation, precision, and execution in almost every way. This was best demonstrated in a brutal 2nd period, but frankly was felt most of the night as Colorado evened the series at two games each with a thorough 3-0 win on Saturday Night in Denver.

The series will move back to Dallas for Monday Night’s Game 5.

These Are My Three Thoughts:

  • That entire effort was just not close to good enough for a team that wants to take control of a series on the road. The defensive coverage was so poor, allowing premium scoring chances from fantastic spots on the ice over and over again. The fact that Jake Oettinger was able to keep them in the game is a credit to him, but the Avalanche raised their desperation and speed and the Stars simply had no answer whatsoever.

The start wasn’t that bad. The Stars had this thing headed in the right way and the first power play was everything but the goal. But, they got another chance and that is where things went very wrong, very fast.
