Leave no doubt.

Any question about the whether the Dallas Mavericks are a problem both in the present and the future is now clearly answered. There is nothing left to prove to their rivals in the Western Conference as they rolled through the No. 4 seed, the No. 1 seed, and the No. 3 seed and never had home court advantage in any series and never even needed a Game 7 to see it through.

The Mavericks completed their unlikely run to the NBA Finals with a thunderous 124-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 to finish the series and to collect a long break before they take on Boston in the NBA Finals in one week’s time. The team who many picked to miss the playoffs in the fall and who many picked to lose in the 1st round of the playoffs in April are now Western Conference Champions and have at least a puncher’s chance to win the franchise’s second NBA title against the Celtics.

It is all very surreal, but it is not fiction. It is happening.

These are My Three Thoughts:

– Congratulations are very much in order to this team for winning its 3rd straight playoff series and putting the entire NBA on notice. This team did not have many folks believing in their building program and trying to duct tape things together without many assets and resources with which to build. But, they believed in their vision and worked hard to push things through and, lo and behold, their roster has put them within four wins of a World Title. We should certainly appreciate when a team builds a winner when nobody thinks they can do it.
