Three Thoughts on D-backs at Rangers, Gm 1
Adolis Garcia walks them off to open the World Series with an opposite field bomb.
Three Thoughts is happening after midnight tonight because who cares about sleep right now?
The Texas Rangers won Game 1 of the 2023 World Series in absolutely wonderful fashion on Friday Night, 6-5. They now lead the series by winning the first game at home and will play Game 2 on Saturday Night.
These are my Three Thoughts:
– Sports are amazing and there is a reason I don’t care about any other hobbies much in life. I figure this is a good time to admit that nights like tonight are why we do this. Why we follow these teams and learn the players and their stories and why they matter to us. In a way, you can always ask the question why is watching total strangers who are usually not from the location they represent important to us?
I don’t know and I really don’t care. I just know they do matter. We come together as a city or an area and we bond with our commonalities in a way that is just impossible to compare to any other thing we do as humans. It doesn’t make sense, I suppose, but it is therapeutic and special. What happened tonight was a World Series featuring our little baseball team – one of the six in the sport who have never even won it once – hosting the entire baseball universe. The people we saw before the game and the special moments they were making while spending a fortune to do it were part of the appeal as we gathered at a stadium that is younger than almost every person inside it. Then, before long, we would hope that our boys had four more wins in them before the Arizona fellows (mostly not from Arizona) could do the same and please their city.
