And so it ends after 104 games.

There was hope that there would be a Game 5 upset in Boston as the weekend grew on, but it turned out that all three games in that city pretty much followed a similar script.

Dallas fights early, but can’t hit shots due to a defensive pressure that throws off any rhythm. Boston gets going at some point and starts stringing things together offensively in an avalanche of fury. Before long, Dallas is trying to catch up and realizing they don’t have enough fire power. Boston pulls away at the moments of their choosing.

Rinse. Repeat.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals Monday Night in Boston, 106-88. The win gives them the series and the NBA Championship for 2024 and ends the season for Dallas on June 17. They had a post season record of 13-9 and by winning three series to get to this point, they advanced further than all but two teams in Dallas Mavericks history. But, it ends in disappointment on this occasion.

These are My Three Thoughts:

–In the end, they ran out of gas. There are many ways to describe what happened against Boston after this operation had such a delightful journey to these finals, but the easiest conclusion is to say they finally ran into a better basketball team and could not really come up with any way to overcome that simple problem. Sometimes, you run into a team that has more everything and you have depleted your resources. This is just that occasion and it stinks.
