Three Thoughts -Stars Win It Twice in Gm 6
The true character of a potential champion was tested hard in Denver. And they passed the test by eliminating Colorado in Double Overtime.
Sometimes, you cannot go to sleep until you put everything on paper. That game was just crazy enough that this is one of those nights.
The Dallas Stars eliminated their long-time rival, the Colorado Avalanche, in thrilling fashion in Denver on Friday Night/Saturday Morning with former Avalanche star Matt Duchene ending the game and the series at 11:42 of Double Overtime with a goal and Dallas wins the series, four games-to-two.
These are My Three Thoughts:
–What a win. What a difficult, exhausting, frustrating, and impressive win. To have to go through an extra trip to Denver, 40 minutes of looking tired and overwhelmed, plenty of extra hockey, having a win disallowed for no apparent just reason, and then finding the winner anyway, is just beautiful stuff. I mean potential championship stuff. Matt Duchene gets the moment of glory and he deserves it, but he isn’t alone.
As I consider that entire uphill climb on Friday Night, it was just a thing of beauty. You know, people don’t properly remember the only Cup team in Dallas history. We remember them as a team full of Hall of Famers and legendary names and our heads tell us it usually came easy. Well, a little deeper dive will reveal that there were many nights like tonight.
Go on the road, not quite look as fast or as crisp as the opponent. But, then you keep your cool, understand the challenge of staying connected and always within one goal, and then grind out a result that is altogether annoying to any opponent that is sure they were the better team.
This team is doing that at a very high level and that is why this is the best Stars team in a few decades. Yes, they can win in a track meet, but they also can grind out the ugly and outlast you. They have a steely resolve that says they have plans on staying as long as you insist. They are not going to crack – or at least they are not going to crack four times in one series to your outfit.
